King Charles III Coronation Garden

Birdsfoot Trefoil

Albrighton Parish Council own a plot of land off Loak Road/Worthington Drive, formerly Allotment land.

In 2022, the Parish Council committed to improve this land through a community project, which would see an enhancement in the natural environment of flora and fauna, as well as a place for the community to sit and enjoy the outdoors.

To recognise the Coronation of King Charles III, Albrighton Parish Council agreed to formally name the space ‘King Charles III Coronation Garden’ otherwise known as ‘Coronation Garden’.

Albrighton Parish Council have worked alongside local schools including St Mary’s CofE, Albrighton Primary, Birchfield School and Idsall School to create bug hotels for insects, planting of fruit trees and scattering of wildflower seed mixes. Trees have been acquired through Shropshire Council’s Community Tree Scheme for 2023/24. Additional fruit trees were donated by the Bartlett family.

Bush Vetch

We have also received help and support from Kit George from Galliford Try by creating soil beds; David Austin Roses for the supply and delivery of top soil; Severn Trent who have supplied a stone/gravel path; RAF Cosford who dug holes for around 60 trees to help school children with planting trees. Contributors also include: Ren-New Reclamation Yard, Moongate Plant Centre, Shropshire Pallet Recycling Ltd, Boningale Nurseries and Albrighton Fire Station.

An additional thanks goes to Lucy Courtman and Bob Watson who have contributed their time to this project for the community.

This has been a fantastic and rewarding project delivered for the Community, by the Community. We hope everyone will enjoy the Coronation Garden for many years to come.

The last stage of the project will see an installation of a wooden sign with a Coronation plaque imbedded into the wood & other signage to tell you about this project.

If you’ve visited the garden and have taken photos, or if you’d like to provide feedback, please do get in touch!

Additionally, please feel free to pick the fruits if they are ripe and you can make use of them!
